Long Shadows, Short Putts
Here we have an iconic photo of an iconic hole in the golf world. If you’ve ever played Tobacco Road Golf Club at sunset, you’ve had the pleasure of witnessing these beautiful long shadows stretching across the par-5 11th green. It’s a fantastic hole that brings out all the emotions in every golfer. The tee shot is as wide open as it gets, which gives you a sense of confidence to start off the hole. Depending on where your drive ends up, this green is very reachable in 2. Just a long iron into the green. But what makes that 2nd shot so terrifying is perhaps the largest, deepest, scariest waste bunker you’ve EVER seen in your life that pretty much stretches from where you are in the fairway allllllll the way to the green. If you land short and end up in this bunker, you’re looking at about a 30 foot high wall you have to clear to get up and down for a sandy. Not ideal. But one thing is certain; whether you land in the bunker of death and triple bogey or hit the shot of your life onto this green and make an eagle, once you walk up to this green and see the sun setting behind the tall North Carolina pines and casting these long shadows across the green, you can’t help but be in awe.
